What You Need to Know About Teeth Bonding

If you are someone who either has a chipped tooth, a fractured tooth, or you have staining/discoloration on your teeth, there is a very good chance that teeth bonding may be your best option, especially if the cost of veneers does not appeal to you. Please continue reading and speak with our experienced New Jersey dental team to learn more about teeth bonding and whether it is the right move for you. Here are some of the questions you may have:

What is the process of teeth bonding?

Essentially, if your teeth have any of the aforementioned problems and you are looking to correct them, teeth bonding may be a viable option. Essentially, your dentist will simply cover your teeth, or tooth, with a composite plastic resin that will fix any imperfections your teeth may have. From here, we will polish and mold the resin to match the remainder of your teeth, and then harden the bond in ultraviolet light. In most cases, you will be out of our office in an hour tops, though oftentimes, this is only a half-hour procedure. You will not have to prepare for the visit, however, you should note that in certain instances, you may have to visit our office multiple times–however, this is generally only the case if you are having more than one tooth bonded. Once your tooth is bonded, you can go on with the smile you have always wanted at a reasonable cost. This procedure also does not require anesthesia, unless you are placing the bonding over a decayed tooth.

What will I have to do after receiving a tooth bonding?

After your procedure, you will have to be very careful. Composite resin is not as strong as natural teeth, which is why you will have to take various precautions, such as refraining from opening packaging with your teeth, biting fingernails, and more. Additionally, certain foods, such as coffee, tea, tobacco, and more for about a week after your procedure may stain the bonding, which is why you must refrain from using those as well. In many cases, your bonding will last up to 10 years, as long as you take care of them.
