Nobody wants to have their tooth removed. However, there are times where doing so, and doing so sooner, rather than later, is completely necessary. For this very reason, you must continue reading and speaks with our experienced New Jersey dental team to learn more about tooth extractions and how we can help make the process as quick and painless as possible. Here are some of the questions you may have:
Are there different types of tooth extractions?
Yes. There are two primary types of tooth extractions, and those are simple extractions and surgical extractions. Essentially, a simple extraction is when your dentist can clearly see the problem tooth in your mouth. This is usually the case when the tooth is fully grown. Once your dentist locates the tooth, he will administer a local anesthetic so you do not feel any pain when the extraction occurs. When he administers the anesthetic, he will gently loosen the tooth and remove it with forceps. Easy.
Surgical extractions, on the other hand, though they are generally a bit more complicated, are also painless. These extractions are necessary when you have a problem tooth under your gums that has not yet grown in. In many cases, surgical tooth extractions are required when it comes to impacted wisdom teeth. In this case, you will receive anesthesia through an IV, and your dentist or an oral surgeon will proceed to remove the problem tooth.
Why must my tooth be extracted?
The following scenarios often warrant tooth extractions so that individuals can prevent further problems in the future:
- A severely-decayed tooth must be removed to prevent the spread of infection.
- Children sometimes need to have baby teeth extracted to make room for incoming teeth.
- In many cases, wisdom teeth require removal, as previously mentioned. Though for some people, this is not the case, many individuals do require wisdom teeth removal, as they frequently become impacted in the gums, which can not only result in serious pain, but also serious issues with your jaw and mouth in the future. Our dental team has handled countless tooth extractions in the past, and we know we can do the same for you.
