What Are Dental Bridges? Ask Our Basking Ridge Dental Team.

Many people who have missing teeth wish to have them replaced in some way so that they can go on to have the smile they’ve always wanted. There are several options on the table, and unfortunately, they can make matters quite confusing. This is why we are here to explain one of the most popular options–dental bridges. Please continue reading and speak with our New Jersey dental team to learn more about dental bridges and whether they are the right option for you. Here are some of the questions you may have:

What are dental bridges?

Essentially, a dental bridge is a fixed removable denture that our dental team can easily place in between two supporting crowns. Generally speaking, dental bridges are composed either of porcelain or they are bonded bridges. Depending on your needs and your mouth, we will determine which bridges are best for you.

Are there different types of dental bridges?

Yes, there are, though there are three types of dental bridges that are the most common. The three most common types of dental bridges are as follows:

  • Traditional Dental Bridge: These are generally used when an individual has teeth on either side of a missing tooth that requires a dental crown.
  • Maryland Bridge: A Maryland bridge is when our dental team essentially attaches metal wings to a replacement tooth, and from there, the wings will dock on teeth on either side of the empty space.
  • Cantilever Bridge: This is when we place an implant between adjacent missing teeth.

What are the perks of dental bridges?

There are various perks of having dental bridges installed. To start, bridges are a very affordable option when it comes to replacing missing teeth. Further, dental bridges will also realign your bite, allowing you to chew food properly once again. Finally, having dental bridges installed will prevent your teeth from shifting, which will, in turn, prevent certain additional dental issues down the road.

Are dental bridges durable?

Yes! Your dental bridges should last for at least 15 years, and at times, dental bridges can last even longer than 15 years.
