Tips for Healthy Teeth

Your smile says a lot about you, so why not make it reflect the beautiful person behind it? Most people brush their teeth during the day or before bed, but is this really enough? If you are looking for new ways to improve your pearly whites, you’re in the right place. Below, you will find several tips on how you can keep your teeth clean, and your smile beaming.

Always brush your teeth before bed: This is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth, as plaque and germs accumulate there throughout the day. Brushing every morning and every night is crucial. (Don’t be afraid to brush in the afternoon or after meals as well!)

Brush your teeth in circular motions: While many of us are often in a rush to get on with our day, this is one part of your morning routine you should consider slowing down. You should always brush deliberately, in gentle, circular motions.

Use fluoride toothpaste: This is one of the most important ingredients in toothpaste. Fluoride is your best friend when it comes to retaining a healthy smile.

Floss daily: Those who incorporate flossing into their daily routine enjoy plaque reduction, inflammation reduction, and gum stimulation. Flossing is a crucial part of oral health, and also helps improve your breath.

Limit certain food intake: In particular, acidic and sugary foods are no good for your teeth. Both sugary and acidic foods wear down your enamel, and will eventually cause cavities. Ouch! Do your best to avoid these foods as much as possible, no matter how much you enjoy them. Your teeth will thank you in the long run!

Refrain from smoking: Rather obviously, smoking is an addictive habit. As hard as it may be to quit, you should understand what smoking does to your mouth. Smoking inhibits tissue recovery in the mouth, which may lead to gum disease in the future. Smoking will also yellow your teeth and tongue after a period of time, and it may even affect your breath, despite daily brushing, flossing, and mouthwash use.

Visit your dentist at least twice a year: This is crucial, whether you follow the above advice on a daily basis or not. Even if you do not feel pain yet, a skilled dentist will be able to spot potential future problems before they become severe. Additionally, a dentist will provide you with a thorough cleaning that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to show off your smile!
